Why Your Symptoms Aren't Random, And What Might Actually Be Driving Them. + Free eBook

If you've spent months, or even years, trying to figure out why your skin won't clear up, why your digestion never quite feels right, or why you're constantly told your test results are "normal" even though you feel far from it, you're not alone, and you're not imagining it.

As a naturopath, one of the most common things I hear from clients is some version of: "I've tried everything. Why isn't anything working?"

Here's the thing: most approaches to skin and gut issues treat them as isolated problems. Break out? Try a new serum. Bloated? Cut another food group. But your body doesn't actually work that way.

Your Body Works as One System

Your gut communicates with your immune system. Your hormones influence your skin. Stress affects digestion. Blood sugar impacts inflammation. None of these systems operate in a silo, which is exactly why treating the surface level symptom so often leads to temporary relief at best.

When we zoom out and look at the whole picture, we can start supporting the body in a way that actually creates lasting change, instead of just managing symptoms on repeat.

The Five Places I Look First

In my practice, there are five areas I investigate with almost every client, because they're so often at the root of persistent skin, gut, energy and mood symptoms:

1. Gut health. Your digestive system isn't just about digesting food. It plays a huge role in inflammation, immunity, nutrient absorption, and skin health. Bloating, irregular bowel motions, and food sensitivities are often signals worth listening to.

2. Blood sugar balance. This isn't just a diabetes conversation. Frequent blood sugar spikes and crashes can drive cravings, energy slumps, brain fog, and inflammation.

3. Hormones. Some hormonal shifts throughout your cycle are completely normal. But persistent jawline breakouts, painful periods, or irregular cycles can be your body asking for more support.

4. Stress. When your nervous system is stuck in survival mode, it doesn't just affect your headspace. It can show up in your sleep, digestion, and even your skin's ability to repair itself.

5. Inflammation. Often the common thread running underneath recurring acne, eczema, fatigue, brain fog, and digestive discomfort.

Small Steps, Real Change

The good news? You don't need a complete lifestyle overhaul to start feeling better. Small, consistent habits, like prioritising protein and fibre, staying hydrated, sleeping well, and moving your body in ways you enjoy, can create meaningful shifts over time.
